Civilian
Tactical
Medicine

OVERVIEW

This course is designed to develop experienced tactical medics in a number of ways, including the ability to provide Tactical Medical Leadership in some of the most challenging civilian tactical situations.

The course does not aim to extend the medical skills beyond RTACC, instead it will further expand and embed those existing skills, whilst directly linking them to crucial decision making about medical response, prioritisation, evacuation and input to operational commanders as a Tactical Medical Lead.
Once trained these individuals will be best placed to direct available medical response, facilitate flow and direct extraction to casualty collection points. They will also be well prepared to directly link into ambulance and air ambulance assets that may be holding outside the ‘hot zone’.

Candidates whose scope of practice sits above RTACC will have the opportunity to demonstrate and rationalise suitable medical interventions in the tactical environment.
The course is trauma focussed and includes the three phases of tactical medical care combined with the MARCH approach, developed by UK Special Forces and now utilised around the world.

Within the course candidates will learn how to plan and deliver tactical medicine at both predetermined and emergency incidents. This will further extend into large scale incidents, PLATO operations and the role of the TAC-MED advisor supporting JESIP leaders. Interoperability of responders and skill sets is a key element of CTM.
The course is heavily scenario based providing many opportunities for all candidates to plan and lead the team, whilst the others provide the medical care, representing their team operating under their direction.

After successful completion of the full course, candidates will receive a Level 4 Certificate In Civilian Tactical Medicine (CTM) and an Award In Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
