MTACC 2027 | Mountain Trauma & Critical Care
THE MOUNTAIN DOESN’T COMPROMISE. NEITHER SHOULD YOU.
7-8th February 2027 | Zermatt, Switzerland
Limited to 25 participants
Experience two extraordinary days of mountain trauma and critical care training beneath the iconic Matterhorn.
Designed for clinicians and rescue professionals,
MTACC 2027 combines practical clinical skills, immersive scenarios and an overnight mountain igloo stay. Working in
five teams of five, you’ll develop your clinical judgement, communication and teamwork while facing the physical and environmental challenges of the Swiss Alps.
Every session takes place beyond the conventional classroom. Snow-covered terrain, altitude and environmental exposure create a demanding setting in which to assess patients, make decisions and deliver effective care under pressure.
Day 1: Into the mountains
Your experience begins aboard the world-famous
Gornergrat railway, ascending into the alpine landscape above Zermatt.
Working alongside experienced instructors and mountain professionals, you’ll develop and test your skills through practical activities covering:
- High-altitude medicine and clinical decision-making
- Vertical Basic Life Support (BLS) drills
- Primary assessment in extreme environments
- Hypothermia management
- Avalanche rescue
- Mountain casualty evacuation
A cold, traditional working lunch on the mountainside keeps you immersed in the environment throughout the day.
Overnight at Iglu-Dorf
As evening approaches, your team will make its way to
Iglu-Dorf mountain village for a traditional Swiss fondue evening, access to the sauna and hot tub, and an overnight stay in a real mountain igloo.

This shared experience offers time to reflect on the day, get to know fellow participants and build the relationships that underpin effective teamwork.
Day 2: When the mountain becomes the emergency
Operating in teams of just five, you’ll face complex trauma and medical emergencies across the mountain environment.
Scenarios will encompass sports and leisure incidents, hypothermia and a diverse range of injuries and medical conditions. You’ll be challenged to deliver care in snow, darkness and at altitude, while managing the physical demands of working in the mountains.
Each scenario will test your clinical judgement, communication, teamwork and ability to adapt to difficult circumstances.
A hot lunch at
Riffelberg Mountain Restaurant is included before you complete your mountain experience.
