The first North American Rescue Trauma & Casualty Care Course (RTACC) was run on October 20-22nd 2017 and proved to be a “phenomenal” success.

Over 20 candidates attended the course, including firefighters, paramedics, HEMS Nurse and Physicians. Candidates travelled from across the province and enjoyed a fantastic venue for learning, joint training and innovation.

The vision for the RTACC course in North America was solidified when Dr. Mark Forrest and his team visited Canada to speak at the Emergency Summit, June 10th 2017, in Nelson, BC. This visit demonstrated the broad range of capabilities of the ATACC Group and their passion to disseminate and teach the most up to date pre-hospital training to the Emergency Services. With local support, including the Regional Fire Service, four months later the RTACC Course was delivered to Emergency Service Providers in Nelson.

The RTACC course ran at North Shore Fire Rescue Hall and involved an intensive three days of concise lectures, practical training and scenario based learning. The ATACC Group sent one of their most experienced instructors, Phil Keating, to assist with delivering the course “ATACC Style,” and that objective was certainly accomplished.

We are just at the beginning of the ATACC journey in North America and the RTACC course is going to blaze a trail for excellence in pre-hospital care provision at the roadside. With more courses planned in Nelson it is an exciting time for the Emergency Services and all those involved.
